Leading into Sustainability
April 19, 2023 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Decarbonization refers to the process of reducing or eliminating carbon dioxide emissions. It involves implementing measures to reduce carbon emissions or replacing fossil fuel-based sources of energy with renewable alternatives. Decarbonization is crucial to addressing the climate crisis as carbon emissions contribute to global warming, which has far-reaching impacts on our planet’s ecosystems and human societies. The Philippines is among the countries most vulnerable to climate change, despite contributing less than 1% of global carbon emissions. According to the UNDP, the country has set a target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 75% by 2030.
The infrastructure industry has a significant interest in decarbonization because it is responsible for a large portion of the country’s carbon emissions and greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, any effort to decarbonize the country’s infrastructure sector would have a significant impact on reducing carbon emissions.
By promoting decarbonization, the infrastructure industry can reduce its carbon footprint, improve the sustainability of its projects, and enhance their resilience to climate change impacts.
