Manila, Philippines – The Philippine government is actively exploring the use of hydrogen for power generation, prompted by a circular from the Department of Energy (DOE) that underscores the importance of promoting interest in this particular form of energy production. Signed by Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla on January 12, 2024, DOE Circular No. 2024-01-0001 enacts that incentives will be put in place to push the technology.
The circular indicated that hydrogen energy projects with the main role of creating, bringing in, and sending out green hydrogen and green hydrogen derivatives for power generation and other applications may avail of income tax holidays and exemption from duties on renewable energy machinery, equipment, and materials.
