Manila, Philippines – The Philippine government is actively exploring the use of hydrogen for power generation, prompted by a circular from the Department of Energy (DOE) that underscores the importance of promoting interest in this particular form of energy production. Signed by Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla on January 12, 2024, DOE Circular No. 2024-01-0001 enacts that incentives will be put in place to push the technology.

The circular indicated that hydrogen energy projects with the main role of creating, bringing in, and sending out green hydrogen and green hydrogen derivatives for power generation and other applications may avail of income tax holidays and exemption from duties on renewable energy machinery, equipment, and materials.

The DOE characterizes local hydrogen as the normal occurrence of hydrogen gas in geologic arrangements that can be related to methane and other hydrocarbon gases and can likewise be considered as mineral gas that might be administered by the public authority.

As of now, hydrogen is being looked at for its capability to be used alongside gaseous petrol to make the latest ignition clean.

In the previous year, the National Power Corp. agreed to lead studies of feasibility on the utilization of green hydrogen and fuel cell technologies in the isolated rural regions of the Philippines.

The gatherings had said the joint effort plans to advance information, innovative opportunities, and the economic goal of clean and cheap energy.

This commitment is expected to deliver a thorough study of feasibility that is supposed to help the modernization of power-generating resources in isolated rural regions, by investigating the expected alternative of diesel-controlled systems with green hydrogen.
