On 16 September 2023, the France-Philippine United Action (FPUA), in partnership with E&V Water and Life, embarked on a mission to simultaneously clean the coasts of Talisay Cebu and Tabing Dagat Cavite in commemoration of World Clean Up Day.
This impactful initiative saw an incredible turnout of environmental advocates, with 80 attendees participating in the Coastal Clean Up in Talisay, and an astounding 140 attendees in Tabing Dagat, Cavite. The collective effort displayed a remarkable dedication to the cause, reinforcing the significance of community collaboration in safeguarding our oceans and coastal ecosystems.
Among the participants were members of the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry, including Egis, E&V Water and Life, Delfingen, CMA-CGM, TotalEnergies, Airliquide, Konsulta MD, and The Plastic Flamingo. Their active involvement reflects a shared commitment to environmental sustainability and corporate social responsibility. Furthermore, the event was graced by the esteemed presence of representatives from the French Embassy, underscoring the strong bilateral ties between France and the Philippines in addressing pressing environmental issues. Their support underscores the importance of international cooperation in addressing the global challenges of marine pollution and climate change.
The plastic collected by the participants and volunteers will also be gathered and accumulated by Plastic Flamingo, a social enterprise in the Philippines that transforms plastics into sustainable construction materials to build new schools and shelters.
The Coastal Clean Up by FPUA aimed to raise awareness about the urgent need to protect our oceans and coastal areas while encouraging individuals and organizations to take proactive steps in preserving these vital ecosystems. Volunteers diligently collected and properly disposed of plastic waste and other debris, leaving the shorelines cleaner and healthier. FPUA expresses its profound gratitude to all the participants, sponsors, and partners who made this event possible. Together, we have made a tangible impact on the environment and set a powerful example for others to follow.
