The Metro Manila Council (MMC), composed of 17 NCR mayors, have detailed their plan to maintain the alert level 3 status within their respective municipalities, despite the continued rise of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country. According to the current Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Chair, Benjamin Abalos Jr, the member mayors of the MMC, alongside the IATF do not see any reason to increase the alert level in the NCR region, and are unwilling to impose lockdowns in the near future. The MMC have cited the minimal increase of the region’s Health Utilization Rate (HUR) as enough of a justification for the retention of the region’s current alert level. However, Abalos warns that the guidelines towards unvaccinated individuals, that limit their movement outside their homes, are still in effect.
